Don't get me wrong; I love my carefully curated Pokemon collection to death, but do I know any of these critters that can just say their names? I know the entire backstory of my main Yo-Kai, Jibanyan. Other Yo Kai that I meet can ask me for things and clearly get their feelings across... and that is very cool in comparison to Pokemon. Now, obviously, it's not possible at this point to make Pokemon abruptly able to speak to their trainers, but the Pokemon anime definitely spends time helping us get to know certain Pokemon as creatures with unique characters and problems.

Yo-Kai Watch is a bit like the new Pokemon for Japanese children, complete with its enormously-popular anime show. Now that the first game is here, we can see what all the fuss is about, and I've quite enjoyed the title. Actually, in a few ways, I think it's even cooler than Pokemon.
First, Yo-Kai Watch occurs in our world, and your character has normal kid worries. You're not some pre-teen who is tossed out into the wild world to face down dangerous creatures and train them to participate in weird gladiatorial combat rituals. You're a normal child who wants to fit in with her (or his) friends and stresses when her parents fight. However, I 'm suggesting that Pokemon games could spend a bit more time dealing with stories that we can relate to as individuals. The short episodes that make up the story of Yo-Kai Watch remind me of miniature anime episodes, and that's just what I've desired to see the Pokemon games do a bit more of when it comes to stories.
What one other component of the game Niantic means to address is the lack of explanation it gives for certain game mechanics. Addressing especially the rings that form around a Pokemon while catching them, Hanke declares that the game is not intentionally obtuse.
"It's not something that only minted and then issued on launching day and not changed."
"I can not say we were that clever, no" Hanke said of whether the game was meant to have players work together to learn the app's intricacies. "We got lots of comments during the beta, we made a lot of improvements, we fixed a lot of bugs, but I'd place it into that category of something we'd love to make that more so that it is more noticeable."
Now that Pokemon Go has correctly found --- in specific lands, at least ---Niantic Labs has no intention of leaving the game in its present state. Instead, the developer plans to update the game constantly.
In Yo-Kai Watch you play a child who gets the power to see and speak to Yo-Kai, brilliant natures who embody human traits and emotions. The battle system is real-time and totally distinct from Pokemon, and the stream of the story is entirely different. Still, there are a couple things about Yo-Kai Watch's setting and the story that I believe The Pokemon Company could learn from.
The people in the Yo-Kai Watch world also feel more actual than Pokemon game people. Everybody, from small children to old people, in the Pokemon world, is obsessed with talking about Pokemon. Nearly everybody you speak to gives you meta-game advice about Pokemon or Pokemon-related services. They aren't people; they're an lengthy tutorial delivery service. The people in Yo-Kai Watch, on the other hand, have distinct personalities and difficulties you can choose to help them with. Often these difficulties can be solved by summoning or dispelling a Yo-Kai, but they don't know that. They merely know their worker is inexplicably late for work, they lost an important toy, or they don't understand how to ask out the object of their affection. To put it differently, you can see them as genuine people with interests unrelated to you and your pursuit. I'd love to see more of that from.
Hanke noted that this doesn't mean the game will automatically receive major characteristics with each update, but Niantic is devoted to regularly working on and enhancing the game. As Hanke has formerly said, he reiterates that features like trading and upgrades to PokeStops and gyms are among the strategies the developer has in store.
