In Pokemon Go, battles only happen at gyms. If you are challenging an enemy gym, you can pick a squad of six Pokemon that will be sent out in turn.
If you happen to be in the "what is a Pokemon" period of your investigation, we've made an additional guide: Six Pokemon Go suggestions for the ultimate beginner. Read that, then come back here!
You certainly can! Nicknames must just be spelled with letters and numbers, and if you have a common name, you may already be out of luck: There aren't any duplicates permitted. (To whoever already took the name "Allegra," we've got our eye on you.) Naming aside, there are several skin tones, hair colors, and ensembles to choose from. The choice is somewhat less varied than what's available in Pokemon X and Y, for reference.
We are still in the early periods of Pokemon Go knowledge. There are many unanswered questions, such as, "Does throwing a whirling Pokball increase the likelihood of a successful capture?" But this guide will be enough to give you an advantage over your friends and neighbors.
You can also help fortify gyms belonging to your team by training and testing your Pokemon there. A gym gains prestige for each battle it wins, even if it is a player of its team. So you could battle against friendly Pokemon repeatedly until your gym gains another degree, that'll then open up another defensive area, and let you contribute one of your Pokemon to the gym's fortification. Bear in mind that whichever Pokemon you leave behind will not be accessible for anything else unless it gets kicked out of the gym by an enemy team.
Swap for kinds: Swapping out a Pokemon leaves it vulnerable to attack for a few seconds, so you might be reluctant to do it. But if you can swap for a type mismatch, like bringing out a Water Pokemon against a Fire enemy, it'll be worth it so long as their CPs are close.
Do not let the Pokemon you need to leave at the gym faint: If you successfully choose a gym, you won't be able to leave behind a passed out Pokemon to defend it. So make sure your preferred option survives the battle.
Special moves aren't always great: It is tempting to use the specific move when it's charged, but if it is a big one, it might be better to wait until it can be used as a finishing blow. Because the specific move will leave you static and unable to dodge, and may have a cool down time, shooting it'll open you up to a frenzy of attacks. Additionally, make sure to take advantage by relentlessly attacking your enemies when they are charging up a special.
Understand your enemy: As we described in the types section, an important notion in Pokemon is knowing the strengths and weaknesses of your competition. Before going into battle, be sure to check your enemy's kind and use or train Pokemon that's sort advantages over the opposing team.
The gym system is a bit complicated, and you might be wondering why you should be bothering with it whatsoever. There are two main advantages of socializing with gyms: encounter and bonus items.
There are two alternatives for logging into Pokemon Go. The easier approach would be to use an existing Google account. Included in these are a subscription to a monthly newsletter, which sometimes offers download codes for rare Pokemon.
Long answer: Once your trainer has a name, Professor Willow --- this game's top Pokemon scholar --- will walk you through catching Pokemon. He doesn't outright give you a starter, instead directing you to the open map around you, where a Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle appear out of nowhere. Trainers can choose which of the three they want to capture and, at the conclusion of the world's simplest battle, whoever they decided will now be theirs.
You do not have to go it alone: You can join up with other members of your team when fighting to take over enemy gyms.
Practice dodging: In your first battles, you'll likely only pat furiously away at the attack buttons, and this is most likely a decent strategy if your Pokemon has a considerably higher CP than its opponent. But to win close battles or battles where you are the underdog, you'll need to get great at dodging, especially at dodging huge particular attacks.
There are some ways for your trainer to bring in XP. Each amount’s complete XP demand corresponds to the level number, so at 1000 XP, you finish level one and move onto degree two, then 2000 XP after, you move onto level three which needs 3000 XP before you can hit degree four and so on. There is no way to battle in health clubs — the areas on your own map with the gigantic Pokémon GO PokéStop in Bellingen NSW 2454 hovering over them, that look like some futuristic cone — without getting to degree five. So, how 's best to get there quickly? Tap on every PokéStop you can. They have items in them, when they're blue, and you get a little bit of expertise, which helps a ton in the early goings out. You can return to Pokéstops over and over, and they flip over pretty fast (about five minutes as far as we can tell). As you walk around, you may believe your telephone vibrate. That means a Pokémon is close! Pat it, swipe to throw a Poké Ball at it, and it is yours. You'll get lots of experience for doing this, so do it as often as possible.
