Welcome! You, like the rest of Planet Earth, are playing Pokemon Go and need to find out more about how you play. Since we have been playing the game since the beta and we're happy to share what we've learned thus far with those less lucky. Check back, since we are updating this guide frequently.
In Pokemon Go, conflicts only occur at gyms. If you are challenging an enemy gym, you can pick a squad of six Pokemon that will be sent out in turn.
If you happen to be in the "what's a Pokemon" period of your investigation, we have made an additional guide: Six Pokemon Go tips for the ultimate beginner.
You sure can! Nicknames must simply be spelled with letters and numbers, and if you've got a common name, you may already be out of luck: There aren't any duplicates allowed. (To whoever already chose the name "Allegra," we have got our eye on you.) Naming aside, there are several skin tones, hair colors, and outfits to choose from. The selection is somewhat less varied than what's available in Pokemon X and Y, for reference.
We are still in the early periods of Pokemon Go knowledge. There are many unanswered questions, such as, "Does pitching a whirling Pokball increase the odds of a successful capture?" But this guide will be enough to give you an advantage over your friends and neighbors.
You can even help fortify gyms belonging to your team by training and testing your Pokemon there. A gym gains prestige for each battle it wins, even if it's a player of its team. So you can battle against friendly Pokemon repeatedly until your gym gains another level, which will then open up another defensive spot, and allow you to give one of your Pokemon to the gym's fortification. Bear in mind that whichever Pokemon you leave behind will not be accessible for anything else unless it gets kicked out of the gym by an enemy team.
Swap for sorts: Swapping out a Pokemon leaves it vulnerable to attack for several seconds, so you might be reluctant to do it. But if you can swap for a type mismatch, like bringing out a Water Pokemon against a Fire enemy, it'll be worth it so long as their CPs are close.
Don't let the Pokemon you desire to leave at the gym faint: If you successfully take a gym, you won't be able to leave behind a fainted Pokemon to defend it. So make sure your favorite option survives the battle.
Specific moves are not always great: It is tempting to use the specific move the moment it is charged, but if it is a large one, it might be best to wait until it can be used as a finishing blow. Because the particular move will leave you static and unable to dodge, and may have a cooldown time, firing it will open you up to a frenzy of attacks. Also, be sure to take advantage by relentlessly attacking your enemies when they're charging up a specific.
Understand your enemy: As we explained in the types section, an important notion in Pokemon is understanding the strengths and weaknesses of your opponent. Before going into battle, be sure to assess your enemy's kind and use or train Pokemon that has type edges over the opposing team.
The gym system is somewhat complicated, and you might be wondering why you should be bothering with it whatsoever. There are two primary benefits of socializing with gyms: encounter and bonus items.
There are two alternatives for logging into Pokemon Go. The simpler approach is to use an existing Google account. Otherwise, players can either sign in with or sign up for a Pokemon Trainer Club account, which comes with added privileges. These include a subscription to a monthly newsletter, which occasionally offers download codes for rare Pokemon.
Long answer: After your trainer has a name, Professor Willow --- this game's leading Pokemon scholar --- will walk you through catching Pokemon. He doesn't outright give you a starter, rather directing you to the open map around you, where a Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle appear out of nowhere. Trainers can choose which of the three they want to get and, at the ending of the world's easiest battle, whoever they picked will now be theirs.
You don't have to go it alone: It's possible for you to join up with other members of your team when fighting to take over enemy gyms.
Practice dodging: In your first conflicts, you will likely just tap furiously away at the attack buttons, and this is most likely a decent strategy if your Pokemon has a substantially higher CP than its competitor. But to win close conflicts or battles where you're the underdog, you will have to get great at dodging, particularly at dodging big specific attacks.
There are some means for your trainer to make XP. Each level’s complete XP requirement corresponds to the amount number, so at 1000 XP, you conclude level one and go onto level two, subsequently 2000 XP later, you move onto level three which needs 3000 XP before you can reach degree four and so on. There's no way to battle in gymnasiums — the areas on your own map Pokémon GO PokéStop in East Lindfield NSW 2070 hovering over them with the massive , that look like some futuristic cone — without getting to level five. How 's better to get there quickly? Tap on every PokéStop you can. When they're blue, they have items in them, and you get a bit of experience, which helps out a ton in the early goings. You can return to Pokéstops over and over, and they flip over pretty quickly (about five minutes as far as we can tell). As you walk around, you may feel your phone vibrate. That means a Pokémon is near! Tap on it, swipe to throw a Poké Ball at it, and it is yours. You will get lots of experience for doing this, so do it as often as possible.
