Now, of course, it is not possible at this point to make Pokemon suddenly able to speak to their trainers, but the Pokemon anime certainly spends time helping us get to understand particular Pokemon as creatures with particular personalities and issues.
In the immediate future, those upgrades include Niantic focusing on stabilizing the servers and launching the game in other areas, having just officially released in America, New Zealand, and Australia.
Many of you've probably missed it in November's onslaught of chart-topping releases, but Nintendo has snuck out a small creature-catching game that is been all the rage in Japan for the last few years. Yo-Kai Watch is a bit like the new Pokemon for Japanese kids, complete with its massively-popular anime show. In fact, in a few ways, I think it's even cooler than Pokemon.
First, Yo-Kai Watch takes place in our world, and your character has normal child anxieties. You're not some pre-teen who is tossed out into the crazy world to face down dangerous creatures and train them to engage in eccentric gladiatorial combat rituals. You are a regular child who desires to fit in with her (or his) friends and stresses when her parents fight. Now, I'm not saying that all games should take place in the real world - I love fantasy and sci-fi universes! Nevertheless, I 'm suggesting that Pokemon games could spend a bit more time coping with storylines that we can relate to as people. The short episodes that make up the story of Yo-Kai Watch remind me of mini anime episodes, and that is just what I Have needed to see the Pokemon games do a bit more of when it comes to narratives.
What one other component of the game Niantic means to address is the lack of explanation it gives for certain game mechanics. Addressing especially the rings that form around a Pokemon while catching them, Hanke declares the game isn't deliberately obtuse.
"It's not something that just minted and then issued on start day and not transformed."
"I can not say we were that intelligent, no" Hanke said of whether the game was thought to have players work together to learn the app's intricacies. "We got a lot of comments during the beta, we made lots of developments, we fixed lots of bugs, but I would place it into that kind of something we had love to make that more so that it is more obvious."
Now that Pokemon Go has correctly started --- in certain territories, at least ---Niantic Labs has no intention of leaving the game in its present state. Instead, the programmer plans to update the game consistently.
In Yo-Kai Watch you play a kid who obtains the power to see and speak to Yo Kai, vibrant spirits who embody human traits and emotions. You can recruit a ton of them to your side by defeating them in battle, but that is pretty much where the direct likeness to a Pokemon game endings. The battle system is real time and fully different from Pokemon, and the stream of the story is totally distinct. However, there are a couple of things about Yo-Kai Watch's setting and the story that I believe The Pokemon Company could learn from.
The people in the Yo-Kai Watch world also feel more actual than Pokemon game folks. Everybody, from small children to old folks, in the Pokemon world, is obsessed with talking about Pokemon. Practically everybody you talk to gives you meta-game advice about Pokemon or Pokemon-related services. They aren't people; they're an extended tutorial delivery service. The people in Yo-Kai Watch, on the other hand, have distinct characters and difficulties that you can choose to help them with. Often these difficulties can be solved by summoning or dispelling a Yokai, but they do not know that. They just know that their employee is inexplicably late for work, they lost an important plaything, or they do not understand how to ask out the object of their affection. To put it differently, you can see them as real people with interests unrelated to you and your quest. I'd love to see more of that from.
Hanke noted that this doesn't mean the game will necessarily receive important characteristics with each update, but Niantic is consecrated to consistently working on and enhancing the game. As Hanke has previously said, he reiterates that characteristics like trading and upgrades to PokeStops and gyms are among the plans the programmer has in store.
