In the immediate future, those upgrades will include Niantic focusing on stabilizing the servers and starting the game in other areas, having only formally released in the USA, New Zealand, and Australia.
Yo-Kai Watch is a bit like the new Pokemon for Japanese kids, complete with its hugely-popular anime show. Now that the first game is here, we can see what all the fuss is about, and I've quite enjoyed the title. The truth is, in several ways, I think it's even cooler than Pokemon.
First, Yo-Kai Watch happens in our world, and your character has regular child worries. You're not some pre-teen who's tossed out into the wild world to face down dangerous creatures and train them to engage in bizarre gladiatorial fight rituals. You're a normal child who needs to fit in with her (or his) friends and stresses when her parents fight. However, I 'm proposing that Pokemon games could spend a little more time dealing with narratives that we can relate to as individuals.
What one other element of the game Niantic means to address is the lack of explanation it gives for particular game mechanisms. Addressing specifically the rings that form around a Pokemon while catching them, Hanke declares the game is not purposefully obtuse.

Now that Pokemon Go has correctly found --- in particular territories, at least ---Niantic Labs has no intention of leaving the game in its present state. Instead, the developer plans to upgrade the game consistently.
In Yo-Kai Watch you play a child who obtains the power to see and talk to Yo-Kai, colorful spirits who embody human traits and emotions. You can recruit a ton of them to your side by defeating them in battle, but that's pretty much where the direct likeness to a Pokemon game endings. The battle system is real-time and totally different from Pokemon, and the flow of the story is totally distinct. Still, there are a couple things about Yo-Kai Watch's setting and the story that I think The Pokemon Company could learn from.
The folks in the Yo-Kai Watch world also feel more actual than Pokemon game people. Everybody, from small children to old folks, in the Pokemon world, is obsessed with talking about Pokemon. Practically everybody you speak to gives you meta-game guidance about Pokemon or Pokemon-related services. They aren't individuals; they are an lengthy tutorial delivery service. The folks in Yo-Kai Watch, on the other hand, have distinct characters and problems you can select to help them with. Frequently these issues can be solved by summoning or dispelling a Yokai, but they do not know that. They just understand that their employee is inexplicably late for work, they lost an important plaything, or they don't understand how to ask out the object of their affection. In other words, you can see them as genuine people with interests unrelated to you and your quest. I 'd love to see more of that from.
Hanke noted that this does not mean the game will necessarily receive important attributes with each upgrade, but Niantic is dedicated to consistently working on and improving the game.
