Welcome! Since we have been playing the game since the beta and we're happy to share what we have learned thus far with those less fortunate. Check back, since we're updating this guide regularly.
In Pokemon Go, battles just happen at gyms. If you are challenging an enemy gym, you can pick a squad of six Pokemon which will be sent out in turn.
If you happen to be in the "what's a Pokemon" period of your investigation, we've made an additional guide: Six Pokemon Go hints for the ultimate beginner. Read that, then come back here!
You certainly can! Nicknames must just be spelled with letters and numbers, and if you have a common name, you may already be out of luck: There aren't any duplicates allowed. (To whoever already took the name "Allegra," we've got our eye on you.) Naming apart, there are several skin tones, hair colors, and outfits to choose from. The choice is somewhat less varied than what is obtainable in Pokemon X and Y, for reference.
We are still in the early periods of Pokemon Go knowledge. There are many unanswered questions, such as, "Does chucking a whirling Pokball increase the likelihood of a successful capture?" But this guide will be enough to give you an edge over your friends and neighbors.
You can even help fortify gyms belonging to your team by training and testing your Pokemon there. A gym gets prestige for each battle it wins, even when it is a player of its team. So you can battle against friendly Pokemon repeatedly until your gym gains another degree, that will then open up another defensive spot, and allow you to give one of your Pokemon to the gym's fortification. Keep in mind that whichever Pokemon you leave behind will not be available for anything else unless it gets kicked out of the gym by an enemy team.
Swap for kinds: Swapping out a Pokemon leaves it vulnerable to attack for a number of seconds, so you may be reluctant to do it. But if you're able to swap for a type mismatch, like bringing out a Water Pokemon against a Fire enemy, it will be worth it so long as their CPs are close.
Don't let the Pokemon you want to leave at the gym faint: If you successfully take a gym, you will not be able to leave behind a passed out Pokemon to defend it. So make sure your favored option survives the battle.
Special moves aren't always good: It is tempting to use the specific move when it's charged, but if it's a big one, it might be better to wait until it can be used as a finishing blow. Additionally, be sure to take advantage by relentlessly attacking your enemies when they are charging up a specific.
Know your enemy: As we explained in the types section, an important theory in Pokemon is knowing the strengths and weaknesses of your adversary. Before going into battle, make sure you check your enemy's type and use or train Pokemon that has kind edges over the opposing team.
The gym system is a bit complicated, and you may be wondering why you should be bothering with it whatsoever. There are two main advantages of interacting with gyms: experience and bonus items.
There are two choices for logging into Pokemon Go. The easier method is to use an existing Google account. Otherwise, players can either sign in with or sign up for a Pokemon Trainer Club account, which comes with added privileges. These include a subscription to a monthly newsletter, which occasionally offers download codes for rare Pokemon.
Long reply: Once your trainer has a name, Professor Willow --- this game's top Pokemon scholar --- will walk you through catching Pokemon. He does not outright give you a starter, instead directing you to the open map around you, where a Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle appear out of nowhere. Trainers can select which of the three they would like to get and, at the conclusion of the world's easiest battle, whoever they decided will now be theirs.
You do not have to go it alone: You can join up with other members of your team when battling to take over enemy gyms. Your teammate can attack the same enemy Pokemon like you, and you can make your way through the enemy gym together.
Practice dodging: In your first battles, you'll likely just pat furiously away at the attack buttons, and this is most likely a decent strategy if your Pokemon has a much higher CP than its adversary. But to win close battles or battles where you're the underdog, you'll need to get great at dodging, particularly at dodging enormous special assaults.
There are some ways for your trainer to get XP. Each amount’s full XP demand corresponds to the amount amount, so at 1000 XP, you end degree one and move onto degree two, subsequently 2000 XP afterwards, you move onto level three which needs 3000 XP before you can hit level four and so on. There's no means to battle in gymnasiums — the spots on your own map with the massive Pokémon GO PokéStop in Promisedland QLD 4660 hovering over them, that look like some futuristic cone — without getting to degree five. How 's better to get there fast? Wiretap on every PokéStop you can. They've things in them, when they are blue, and you get a little bit of experience, which helps out a ton in the early goings. You can return to Pokéstops over and over, and they flip over fairly quickly (about five minutes as far as we can tell). You may believe your telephone vibrate, as you walk around. That means a Pokémon is not far! Tap it, swipe to throw a Poké Ball at it, and it is yours. You will get a lot of encounter for doing this, so do it as often as possible.
