For me, the game is the only facet of the Pokemon phenomena that excites me. I think they have a half-baked storyline full of interesting but incredibly limited Pokemon that does not make much sense or goes anywhere.
Pokemon is a phenomenon and kids are going insane over it. What is it about a computer game that's taken off this huge? It even has celestial epochs: we are now in the Age of the Pokemon Black and White. But most of the kids buying these goods are not even actually playing the video game itself! That appears to be another occurrence altogether (for Nintendo, number two behind Super Mario).
Now, my son also isn't a huge fan of the storyline; I'm unsure what it's about Pokemon that fascinates him so much (I can't help but think that kids are infusing their imagination into the story and are perhaps secret 'trainers,' a modern equivalent to the dragon slayer). Regardless, he loves the Pokemon plush toys (plushies or Pokemon stuffed toys) though I am not sure why. Maybe to get a Pokemon stuffed toy would be to kind of capture one with a Pokeball. In any case, I'm neither a stingy or indulgent parent, which typically means that though he may desire a plushie, he won't get one and ends up settling for cards.
Also, the traffic to APKMirror has come from all over the world, with the US only accounting for 10.8% of the site's desktop traffic over the last 28 days. He loves the card game however and will get me to buy him the Pokemon Black and White cards whenever he can. These haven't arrived in used shops in amounts, but he can still get his hands on (and spend his allowance) Legendary Pokemon cards, promo Pokemon cards, and holofoil cards. He and his friends can spend an intense hour or two on card gaming, though they do not seem so interested in the console game (that is more up my alley).
In any case, Pokemon is trendy and times and tastes have changed. It seems we live in an age in which morals, good, bad, and heroism are considerably more blurred than we 'simpler' kids were. We only wanted to see the bad guy get it- not monsters fight it out in tournaments. Perhaps kids are more sophisticated these days. I do know that as a science fiction buff I do believe Pokemon has possible, though by capitalizing on they'd likely alienate their audience.
When I was the child, Japan was obviously not selling video games, but they were writing and creating animation as well as drama. First, there was Ultraman. The monsters were grotesque, Ultraman himself was a hero but ugly too, and it was pure good vs. bad. Monsters came from outer space and Ultraman protected mankind from them. I remember one adorable creature that was the size of the small person and was covered with long strands of strange hair (difficult to describe). But even that monster, though likable, was pretty nasty. My generation is pretty much figured that monsters should be horrible. Pokemon seems like they lack creature hormones or something. Merely to mention it, there was additionally Speed Racer (excellent story- who can forget Spridal and Chim Chim- and who was Racer X really?). The Mach 5 was way cool. What little girl would not enjoy that? Ashes can't hold a candlewick to Speed!
My son is ten now, and we live in Japan. As a Mother, I'm not overly worried about leaving him alone at the Pokemon Center to window shop for himself. This being Japan. Nonetheless, I am worried about him getting lost in the tremendous crowds. So after much deliberation, I figured I should hang out with him here at the Pokemon Center here in Fukuoka.
It is believed that women love to shop, and men don't but that equation does not include kids and hobbyists. Getting my son out of the Pokemon Center, and expecting that he'll forget that there is a Pokemon Center, are hopeless prospects. Pokemon is certainly a hit.
Outside of the US, users all over the world have been trying to download Pokemon GO using an app, circumventing the official app store.

For my middle-aged generation, the attractiveness of Pokemon is a little hard for me to get a grasp on. And if he's so deadly, then why is he so cute? But I must retract all that truly, for I can not discover Pokemon in their animated avatar to be either cute or trendy. Perhaps for my generation, Pokemon merely don't have an allure to us. We can not figure out what they stand for.
