Occasionally, you'll show up as being someplace you aren't. The best method to fix this is to switch place services immediately off and on, and your place should update to represent where you're. The small compass in the top right is used for focusing your view in the direction you are facing, so if for any reason you might have to do just that, then tap it. You can rotate around using your fingers/thumb, or use two at a time, you can go nearer and farther from your character as you want.
