It can subsequently be maintained by your faction, and a pokemon can be left there to fight against new rivals. Battling in gyms additionally gives your pokemon experience and raises their CP and HP.
Combating in Pokemon Go is like a simplified variation of the classic Game Boy game. Furthermore, you can dodge enemy attacks by swiping left and right. Conflicts continue until one of the pokemon has fainted. And of course, regular pokemon damage kind rules are in effect: water pokemon are effective against fire sorts, fire against grass, etc. Pokemon can be healed or came to using potions and revives that you can obtain from visiting pokstops.
Pokeballs are your bread and butter tool for catching pokemon. All three can be obtained at pokstops once you have reached the correct level, and regular pokballs can be purchased with pokcoins from the Store.
Egg incubators are used to hatch eggs, which can include rare pokemon. You are given one incubator for free that's endless uses, while additional, three-use incubators can be found in pokstops or bought with pokcoins. Eggs hatch after being incubated for a certain walking distance that depends upon the particular egg (typically between two to five kilometers).
A higher-level item obtained starting at level 8; Razzberries can be used on higher level pokemon to help prevent them from running away. More can be found at pokstops once they have been unlocked.
A temporary use item that can be applied to a pokstop that increases the odds of encountering wild pokemon at that pokstop for all nearby users. Can be found at pokstops or purchased using pokcoins from the store.

Okay, so for those people who haven't downloaded the game yet, this is for you. There isn't much to say, as everything at this point is pretty self-explanatory. But hey, we did promise to be the most all-inclusive guide.
So, upon loading up for the first time, you will be asked to sign-in using either Google or Pokemon club. You'll be guided through finding your first Pokemon by Professor Willow, a dashing, white-haired chap. The thing is, he guides you through locating your first Pokemon, but the way in which you locate it's very different from how you'd find them from that point onward.
This is fairly simple, and I'm expecting pretty much all of you found this out yourself. You need to use the map on your own phone to navigate, by walking to wherever you must be. There's more to it than that, though, and that is why there's a dedicated section.
Sometimes, you will show up as being someplace you aren't. The best way to fix this is to switch place services fast off and on, and your location should update to signify where you're. The little compass in the top right is used for focusing your view in the direction you are facing, so if for any reason you might have to do just that, then tap it. It's possible for you to rotate around using your fingers/thumb, or use two at a time, you can go nearer and farther from your character as you wish.
So, once you've got the hand of actually moving around, you'll probably be heading to the closest Pokestop, as instructed by our beloved friend Professor Willow.
These are important. When you are near one, make sure to see it. Pokestops will supply you with precious things like potions, Poke Balls, which are used actually to get Pokemon, and occasionally, eggs. Click on the blue square-like image on your own map that represents the Pokestop, and a circle should appear in your screen showing you the location of the stop. It is normally a landmark of some sort, including a statue, church, or fountain. Whirl the circle to have it spit out a couple of goodies.
There are some ways for your trainer to get XP. Each level’s complete XP demand corresponds to the level amount, so at 1000 XP, you conclude degree one and move onto degree two, subsequently 2000 XP after, you move onto level three which needs 3000 XP before you can reach level four and so on.
