If there is an open area at a gym, you can add one of your pokemon to help hold down the fort. Gymnasiums held by one of both competing factions, however, need to be battled for. It can then be asserted by your faction, and a pokemon can be left there to fight against new competitions. Battling in gyms also gives your pokemon experience and increases their CP and HP.

Struggles continue until one of the pokemon has passed out. And of course, regular pokemon damage sort rules are in effect: water pokemon are powerful against fire sorts, fire against grass, etc. Pokemon can be cured or revived using potions and revives you could obtain from visiting pokstops.

Alright, so for those people who haven't downloaded the game yet, this is for you. There isn't much to say, as everything at this point is fairly self explanatory. But hey, we did promise to be the most complete guide.
So, upon loading up for the first time, you will be asked to sign-in using either Google or Pokemon club. You'll be directed through finding your first Pokemon by Professor Willow, a dashing, white-haired chap. The matter is, he guides you through finding your first Pokemon, but the manner in which you locate it is very different from how you'd find them from that point forward.
This is fairly easy, and I'm expecting pretty much all of you figured this out yourself. You have to use the map in your telephone to navigate, by walking to wherever you must be. There's more to it than that, though, and that is why there's a dedicated section.
Sometimes, you'll appear as being somewhere you aren't. The best method to fix this is to switch place services quickly off and on, and your place should update to represent where you're. The small compass in the top right is used for focusing your view in the direction you're facing, so if for any reason you might need to do just that, then tap it. You can rotate around using your fingers/thumb, or use two at a time, you can move closer and farther from your character as you wish.
So, once you have got the hand of really moving around, you will likely be heading to the closest Pokestop, as instructed by our beloved friend Professor Willow.
These are significant. When you're near one, make sure to see it. Pokestops will give you valuable items like potions, Poke Balls, which are used actually to capture Pokemon, and sometimes, eggs. Click on the blue square-like picture on your map that represents the Pokestop, and a circle should appear on your display showing you the location of the stop. It's generally a landmark of some form, such as a statue, church, or fountain. Whirl the circle to have it spit out a few goodies.
There are some ways for your trainer to earn XP. Each amount’s complete XP demand corresponds to the level amount, so at 1000 XP, you finish degree one and go onto degree two, subsequently 2000 XP later, you move onto level three which needs 3000 XP before you can hit level four and so on. There's no way to battle in gymnasiums — the areas on your own map with the huge Pokémon GO PokéStop in South Kumminin WA 6368 hovering over them, that look like some futuristic cone — without getting to degree five. How 's better to get there quickly? Tap on every PokéStop you can. They've things in them when they're blue, and you get a little experience, which helps out a ton in the early goings. You can return to Pokéstops over and over, and they flip over pretty fast (about five minutes as far as we can tell). You may believe your telephone vibrate as you walk around. That means a Pokémon is not far! Pat on it, swipe to throw a Poké Ball at it, and it's yours. You'll get lots of experience for doing this, so do it as often as possible.
